Growing local

In an effort to be slightly more organised, this is a post to share with other members what we have excess of. Also if anyone is looking for a particular seed or gardening item that other members might have more luck with locating - an example of this was Florence locating molasses for me.

I have limited supplies of the following
Free:
* Amaranth - thanks Addy
* Bean Madagascar - thanks Betty
* Bean Soy - thanks Anthony
* Bean Snake
* Luffa Smooth - thanks Rolf
* Okra seed
* Parsley Flat Leaf - thanks Rolf
* Spinach Ceylon - thanks Anthony
* Rockmelon Israeli Ha-ogen seed
* Rosella

To buy (cost prices):
* Foliar (Fulvic) acid supplied by Anthony (forget the name right now) - $5.00 bag
* EM bugs - $5.00 litre (please bring a container)
* the Seed Saver Handbook, Michel & Jude Fanton - $15.00
Let me know if you are interested and I will make sure that I put them aside and bring them to the next meeting. That way hopefully I won't forget until the last minute and half the members have left already!

Please reply to each person that posts so that the replies are grouped together.

I have if anyone would like;
* Lettuce - freckles
* Lettuce - red curly variety
* Cotton seeds ( I collected from side of road - have not tested viability)
* Basil

I am looking for;
* Chilli seeds of any variety (the hotter the better)
* Watermelon (might be too late to plant by December?)

There is probably more that I can't think of right now, will update as we go.
Trinette, there is a chap on another network -"Grow Local" - who is a real chilli fan, he makes chilli sauce for sale, goes by the name of "bentalphanerd", and his website is http://www.alphanerdz.com/. He was very generous with seeds when I met him...
hello trinette. i have lots of little black chillis.the leaves nare black with the fruit turning red aas they mature. i have lots plants so lots of seeds. i have no idea what the name of it is but it seeds readily and is very hot.if you would like some let me know where to send them and i will do so. cheers, sue
Hi Sue,
Thanks very much, I think it might be called "Black Pearl" Chili. I also have a few of these and they self-seed quite easily. They seems to be usually sold as an ornamental but my other half eats them cause they are nice and hot. Thanks for the offer though :-)
Trinette,

I will plant a few chilli seeds (Diggers Chilli Hellfire Mix, Jalepeno, Santa Fe Grande, Poinsetta, Red Hot Cherry & Habenaro Mustard) and one or two each of Watermelon Golden Midget and Watermelon Moon and Stars.

Hopefully you get some fruit (and in case I don't) you can pass me some seeds back for next year!

If I plant them now should still be okay to transplant, do you think? I will put the watermelons in a bigger pot...
Hi Trinette
The watermelons are going well, I have two stars & moon in one little pot and a golden midget in another little pot.

The chilli seeds didn't go so well though - I just am having huge problem with both chilli and capsicum to come up! Anyway I will give you some seeds of black pearl and red ball that I have so you can try yourself... hopefully you have better luck!
Thanks very much Donna, Chili seeds seem to take much longer than most of my other seeds to come up, but generally surface eventually. Looking forward to tomorrow - Yay!
Hi all, sorry i missed the november meeting but im all in for the december meet. (is it kid safe for me kids?)
I have 4 cherry red tomatoe seedlings to give away, they are about the size of me little finger at the mo and growing very well. From dona (amandas garden visit) All organic growing here. May have some luffa seedlings also, starting some more up for shade for me window, so ill plant a few more down also......

Would love some lettuce, herbs to make chicken stuffing? (forget what goes in country style stuffing) and chilli.
(would love some heirloom seeds and start seed saving for our group and others)
The Garden Visit for December is at the Roma Street Parklands and there is a lot of parks for children to play at. We will make sure that we are close to one for them to play at. My children will certainly be coming (as they always end up doing lol)!
Hi Vanessa,

If you have some luffa seedlings I wouldn't mind a couple please.
Hi - both Vanessa's

I have seeds of the smooth luffa which I can plant... will plant some anyway just in case. Waiting for my angled luffa to be ripe enough to pick for seeds, so maybe before the meeting - not sure how long it takes though.
The angled luffa would have to be fibrous and brown (dried) before you can pick the seeds... I bought my seeds from Yuen's in the Valley, quite a good success rate.
