An Australian Geographic article and video about Blue Banded Bees.

Not noted in the article or video is it is only the males which roost at night on twigs. They hang on (all night!) with their jaws! Where do the females hang out overnight, I wonder?

After 18 months, I am finally getting some into my garden.  I also have a crazy little fella, who is appearing in greater numbers that I will post some time as a pic.  I see them as the barometer of garden health.

I've often wondered the same Elaine. And never been lucky enough to see the males roosting either.

Beatuful pic btw.

Over the past two weeks, I have started seeing a few of them in my garden for the first time ever. I can hear their distinct "hum", and follow it to them, but as soon as I show up with the camera, they take off like a shot! I haven't found their roosting spot either. What is their range?

This is also the first year I have planted an area (about 2m x 3m) completely dedicated to the good bugs, as well as the pollinator attracting herbs and flowers amongst the fruit and veg.

If I can just find an area of clay in my yard (normally an easy task), I'll try building a few "hotels" for them, hoping to attract them to a place I can watch. Wouldn't you I can't seem to sink a spade anywhere in the yard to get a decent amount of clay!
