Here is some info for anyone who would be interested in working at the Ekka for a range of garden groups. This is also the area in which our one page info sheet will be displayed, but you would not be working for BLF as such. I also have a roster by which you can suggest your preferred shifts if you would like me to send it to you.
2016 Royal Queensland Show (Ekka)
Flower & Garden Show — Informative Garden Display and Information Stand
As you know, the 2016 Royal Queensland Show (Ekka) will feature the Flower and Garden Show at this exciting new venue – the indoor/outdoor precinct at the Old Museum Building and grounds.
Our section is the Informative Garden Display and associated Information Stand. It’s about food gardens, and sharing knowledge, resources and efforts. It involves community garden groups, plant societies, bee enthusiasts, garden sculpture artists, and commercial businesses.
We need your help to ensure its success.
We are seeking expressions of interest for volunteers to be rostered for roles as stewards to provide support and to help with activities, both at the two Display Gardens and at the Information Stand. One ‘Backyard Garden’ display will be presented through collaboration by Brisbane Organic Growers Inc., Queensland Herb Society and Mudbrick Cottage Herb Farm. The other ‘Backyard Garden’ display will be prepared by Witjuti Grub Bushfood Nursery, and it will also include a stingless bee display by Bob Luttrell (Bob the Bee Man). Volunteer stewards will be provided with background information: brief history notes about the Old Museum; plants in the two display gardens will be labeled; there will be copies of two Queensland Herb Society publications, and Witjuti Grub Bush Nursery will provide a booklet on their plants.
As participants, you will want to look after your own sections of the plants display and the information stand, but it’s not possible for everyone to be present all of the time, and it’s more efficient to have a team effort to share the load. We’d like each participating group to call on their society members or business representatives to help.
Stewards are needed for sessions of 5 hours each, with two sessions per day, and we encourage you and your group to consider volunteering for several sessions during the Ekka. We’d like to have a minimum of two people in the display garden areas, and two people at the Information Stand, at all times that the Precinct will be open to the public (9:00 am to 5:30 pm). Ekka gates will be open to the public 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, but stewards will have access earlier for their shift. We ask that stewards text or email Cate by 12 noon of the day before to confirm their shift for the next day — stating time (am or pm); and location (information stand, ‘bushfood’ display garden, or ‘kitchen’ display garden). This is so that we can try to avoid being let down in not having scheduled assistance.
If you and members of your society or organisation are interested in volunteering, please complete, or have them complete, the below details and return to Cate.
Once we have compiled a roster, we will send a request you to confirm the stewarding appointment, with dates and times required. You will be issued a free entry pass for the day for which you have been rostered.

Sounds marvellous for the young and keen!
I also have a roster for anyone who is interested to add their possible preferences.
I wish I could but my days have gone for standing for an hour, let alone all day. I am sure anyone who does participate will have a wonderful time as I have done in the past with Gardening Displays and Demonstrations. I do hope you get a good role up Andy.
Well, it's not really for me Dianne. It's a mix of herb and garden groups. They were kind enough to offer to put our one pager up for all to see.
