It's been years since I did any sprouting. Decades.
Seeing as I have no garden to speak of, but am now settled in one place, I'm keen to create fresh food in whatever way possible.
Suggestions for best kits/methods please. And where do you get your sprouting seeds without blowing the bank for tiny packets?
I've been searching online and the Mr Fothergills kit (Bunnings) looks pretty good, but I'm open to suggestions including jars and were to buy them.

Green Harvest have lots to choose from. Not your cheapest but reliable. My sprouts are mainly grown in smallish plastic trays and harvested with a pair of small scissors. I've found Buckwheat and Sunflower to be reliable and big enough to handle and cheap to buy in the supermarket. Yet Broccoli and similar small seeds like Radish make great sprouts just they're a bit more fiddly to deal with.
Go for the kit for starters and find out what you like and how the different seeds behave with time to harvest being important.
If you want to try with jars, go to a charity shop and just buy some jam jars, no need for lids. A small sieve will be handy for changing the water without losing the seeds.

I can buy sieve lids for those jars from eBay...just need to get down to the charity shops. There's 6 or 7 of them on the island.
We were given a triple layer plastic sprout grower, the two tops layer had holes like a sieve, to rinse them I suppose. To be truthful I have not tried it out. But one I did try was a Mason jar with a sieve lid that you can stand on a tilt to drain, easy to rinse etc near the sink. See auction site at about $3.70 from China for a stainless steel lid.
I like the idea of the Mason jars Christa. Can pop each one in the fridge as it reaches maturity.
Yep, can buy the sieve lids online pretty cheap. Where did you buy your Mason jats though?
What about seeds - your favs and where you buy them?

Green Harvest have a mouth watering range of sprouting seeds. They seem expensive but I expect you get a lot of sprout for the amount of seed you use.
Yecch. Seems Ozfarmers have a different opening screen each time you land on their site.
The only sprout I've been interested in growing in the past has been Mung Bean. I never used jars, just colanders and paper towels.
But this thread re-wet my appetite for crunch -- as last time I checked optional DIY, the Vietnamese grow these sprouts in sand!
Then I came upon this method from the delightful Maangchi -- the doyen of Korean food cooking online. With her everyday verve and personality my attention was caught by her adaption of a traditional Korean method for 'sprout farming'.
I'm goon try too...as bean sprouts are a soup and fried rice essential. Purchased retail, they are always too old and wilted.

I get the gist :) and will track down some Mung Bean seeds.
Depending on your consumption of sprouts and your particular preferences if you buy say a dozen small mini sprouting trays you can successfully raise a continuous supply of sprouts you can put on a sunny window shelf if needs be.
The accompanying pic is of beetroot sprouts that I started off sown in the trays then transferred to the window ledge when they started to sprout. The trays are designed to soak water up from the bottom so you can just put them in some sort of container that can hold water like I show in the pic and you just cut them as you need them.
You can sprout any seed you like and see what works for you as in taste and ease of sprouting and you don't need to invest in any other than a few trays that last for ages and whatever seed you want to try.
