Growing local

Anyone but me had trouble growing a good potato crop here in SEQ?

Lyle from the Green P Community Garden at Sandgate has agreed to run a potato growing workshop especially for the BLF members. Lyle has tremendous success with his potato crops and this is a one off chance to talk to him about his methods.

If you are able to come along on the day please RSVP HERE.

I can drive a few people into the centre if they would have trouble walking the distance.

Storing the produce is the limiting factor for me.

Oh to have so many potatoes growing that we have trouble storing them! I look forward to that.

As if! The very few kgs that I harvested took all the available suitable space. Oh for a cellar I can see what use they would be especially in colder climes for root vegetable storage over winter. Here a cellar would be so many degrees cooler then outside. We can but dream.

I was really enthused about growing potatoes when we visited Peter Kearneys property.
My he can grow everything well.

But my small scale efforts have been very hit and miss and I just don't know why most fail and occasional ly one will survive and I hesitate to say thrive,

The ones that just sprung up out of the compost have fared as 'well??' as the certified seed potatoes.

I obviously missed something in the info I garnered from Peter, so I'm hoping to remedy that at Lyles visit. I'm happy to bandicoot the bed, oh to have enough to have a storage issue.

Thank you for the Anzac info Susanne.

I wrote over the "Anzac Day" info on the calendar and must admit I hadn't put two and two together.

Could be the answer to the poor RSVP so far. Poor choice of date on my part. I wonder if Lyle realises. It might not fit in with his plans either. I will check.

Just checked the Event listing and there are five of us which is ok. Will still check with Lyle to make sure he knows which day it is. He might have other plans.
