Brisbane Local Food

Growing local

Tim Auld of All You Can Eat Gardens has prepared the detailed, long range Permaculture design for the Jane Street Community Garden.  See Diagrams and very detailed Design notes below.

We are currently in the middle of replacing most of the existing beds with new raised beds in a mixture of tin, Ironbark and Railway Sleepers, thanks to the flood recovery funding from the Commonwealth Bank.

Future plans include a cob oven, aquaponics system, chicken run, communal eating and food preparation area plus the new layout for existing garden beds.

In late July, 2011 we began the installation of our new "Green Waste Recycle Centre" (Compost system to us old time gardeners), which is a totally new, custom built system of 9 bays made out of Ironbark "green" sleepers, with removable panels to make turning compost easier.  Design and supply from Glen Abbott of Farm Direct Timbers.

The new large scale worm farm and 3 new tin beds were also installed late July with lots of help from the Scouts and Venturers.

Seriously cool! I'm going to have a great time reading all the details. Thank you for posting this, it's great to see community gardens and Jane Street in particular coming along. The flood after all did have a silver lining :-)
