Brisbane Local Food

Growing local

Hi Everyone can I bring this important topic to your attention.

Myrtle Rust is known to cause disease in several genera of Myrtaceae family , many Australian natives are of this genus.

Information and advice on this disease is on the web from government bodies and from many other concerned organisations. This link may be helpfull as a start to your own investigations into understanding this plant disease.

http://www.dpi.qld.gov.au/4790_17185.htm

Can I advise that all gardeners and  food growers look into, this disease. Many ornamental and  bush tucker plants belong to the myrtle family and these will be affected in the future as this disease spreads.  The main way this disease is spread is through infected nursery plants and as spores on contaminated clothing and equipment. This is reportable plant disease under Queensland legislation.

This will affect , horticulture, environment, forestry, permiculture, agriculture, and home gardeners, in the long term. Please be aware and vigilant and ensure you pass this info to others.

regards mark
