Brisbane Local Food

Growing local

With the drying winds and neglect, my poor gardens are all dried out and in desperate need of some love, water and organic matter.

I had read with interest that there was a place on Miles Platting road selling mushroom compost at $2.50 per bag and intended to get hubby to fill up the station wagon this week but saw Mick say they didn't have any left last time he went by... is this still the case - better not send him on a wild goose chase!

Does anyone know of another place to get cheap mushroom compost to replenish my raised beds (will be mixed with dried up sand and maybe a bit of fertiliser) - hopefully not too far from Inala...

I wish I do Donna ... there used to be a mushroom farm at Acacia Ridge, but they've moved to Ipswich... and sounded like the one on Miles platting Road's probably closed down too. I guess the land over that way's really getting very expensive and probably not viable as a mushroom farm anymore ^^

There's a mushroom farm on Mount Lindsay Highway, but they only sell their compost by the trailer ($25 if I remember correctly), and you need to buy a minimum of 5 cubic metre if you want delivery ($20 a cubic metre + delivery). Maybe ask around your neighbourhood and see if anyone needed any to share the load?

Other then that, there's a mushroom farm near Betty & Bob's place ^^"

For mushroom compost try Sapar Landscape Supplies, Kruger Parade, Redbank Plains, ph: 3814 3602. Bulk $49.50 m3 plus delivery (to Moggill it is $66) and they also sell 35kg bags for $5.50 (currently in stock)
