Growing local

shallow soils, but still gives a much better crop with a deeper soil.

Growing in a bath gives a much larger crop and is easier to dig up - the styrene boxes need careful handling, as  they will break easily, and the sacks are difficult to get all of the roots out, I recommend that they are completely tipped out into a wheelbarrow as this may be the only sure fire method of getting all of the tubers out and not have them resprout during the next growing season.

The growing medium should be well draining but preferably have quite good water retention properties. I use lots of horse manure added to compost and my sandy soil. These are some of the only crops I can grow well over the hottest times of the year.

It appears that not all of my post was transferred. I was simply saying that Ginger can be grown in shallower soils than Turmeric, but they both benefit and crop much better in deeper soils. The sacks give a deeper soil and the Poly boxes should probably be stacked two high for the same result (knock out the bottom out of the topmost box).
