Bruce Pascoe: Aboriginal agriculture, technology and ingenuity

In 2014, Bruce Pascoe wrote a book called Dark Emu that challenged the belief that the First Australians were hunter-gatherers. In researching his book, Bruce examined the journals of the early explorers and found evidence of a complex civilisation that was using sophisticated technologies to live, farm and manage the land.

Researchers continue to discover new evidence of the earliest human occupation of Australia.

This digital series from the ABC is a great wake up call as Pascoe explains how the land was farmed sustainably by over 60,000 years of Aboriginal, occupation and stewardship.

If you have read the book, this is a great compendium. For those who haven't these short vids are a great introduction.

The new digibook, "Aboriginal agriculture, technology and ingenuity", contains 19 short clips and accompanying information, provoking students to think about the complex and infrequently discussed relationship that Indigenous people have with the land around them.

Bruce is a favourite of mine.  I've been highlighting his work on our facebook page.  His findings should be taught in every school.

Have read Dark Emu well worth the time to find information (for me anyway) unknown at the time. Highly recommended.

well worth watching - and yes they should be taught in school

For anyone who doesn't have the time or desire to read it as a book he's also done an excellent audiobook that's available from the local library service also!
