Award winning 10 star energy efficient house on 1.5 acres of self sufficient land is for sale.

Incredible house and land for sale:

Our 2007 Glossy Award winning 10 star energy efficient house on 1.5 acres of self sufficient land is for sale... we are moving to Tasmania.

Nothing has been spared to make this house sustainable. This passive solar house needs zero heating and cooling, even when it's 43 degrees outside in Summer, or below zero on the odd frosty Winter morning. Mon Abri features
3.5kW of solar panels feeding the grid, giving us an $1800 a year income,
a solar hot water system that has never been boosted other than with the Aga wetback,
a waterless composting toilet that never smells,
2 x 5000 gallon tanks for house and garden water, and
an Aga wood fired, combustion cooker for those cool winter nights (and a large five burner gas cooktop for summer).
The kitchen is the penultimate country style hub of the house with a herb and vegetable garden plus the new cob pizza oven two steps from the kitchen door.
Split level with open plan living on the lower level,
3 bedrooms + study/4th bedroom upstairs with a separate composting toilet, bathroom with a large oval two person bath & a wheelchair accessible shower
There is also a 6m x 3m shed/workshop and
a combined goat/chicken shed.

Spectacular sunsets and views of Mt Cooran and Mt Cooroora from the large deck, right next to our pizza cob oven make entertaining here a cinch!

The property comes with 2 beehives for honey and pollination, chickens and ducks for eggs and meat, a hand reared British Alpine billy, his kid Mindy and a milking goat, Jezzie for milk and cheese.
An extensive fruit orchard, home to our Muscovy ducks accompanies the 200m² vegetable patch.
The whole property runs on Permaculture principles, and is easy to look after, there is very little mowing to do even for this much land.

When I built this place, never in a million years did I ever think we would sell it. Just yesterday, a permaculture friend (who lives in Black Mountain - see below) asked me why were we selling a...

Just had a look at this, if we were 10/15 years younger would be really interested as our son lives nearby, we look to downsize in a couple of years but must look for something smaller.

I doubt it is still for sale.  The page is dated April 2013.

Nope - found it on facebook.  Lissa is correct.  It is still for sale.

I read a comment from the owner saying it had been on the market for two years already and despite the interest they have had, noone has offered to buy it yet.

Maybe buyers see work.

If the price is right ...

Gosh, what a lovely prospect! It's just 1.7km and 22 minutes walk from Cooran train station, with two trains to Brisbane a day. It looks as if one could live genuinely sustainably there, with no car! What a shame they're not willing to rent it out, as I'd love to give it a go for a year to see how I liked it.

Did they say they wouldn't rent it Rob? I haven't read all the blurb. Maybe you could ask? Then we could come visit :D

Good point! I might investigate later in the year, as I'm committed to study until November.
