SignatureBrisbane Interactive Backyards

SignatureBrisbane and the RNA have partnered to present the SignatureBrisbane Interactive Backyards, a new concept for the 2009 Ekka where the old garden meets the new. These backyard concepts demonstrate how to create backyard habitats to encourage wildlife across neighbouring yards and the evolution of our backyards.

Visit childhood memories in our old style country garden and step through the magical doorway into today’s urban garden that has been carefully crafted to integrate country concepts into today’s modern backyard. Throughout the day you can see cooking demonstrations using produce from the backyards. Our chooks are laying eggs and we can also take advantage of the aquaponics system to put a healthy, environmentally friendly and sustainable meal on the table for the whole family.

Old Style Country Garden

Kids can visit the old style garden shed to pot sunflower seeds to take home and nurture for free.

This looks like the most worthwhile thing at the Ekka for a long time. I'm not sure I'll be able to go as I'll be right back into uni by that stage : ( and the tickets are a bit expensive. If you go take some nice pictures!
