Event Description

This workshop will teach you how to grow strawberries with no chemicals. Complete instruction on ideal strawberry bed design, soil preparation, ongoing soil and plant fertility, drainage, runner propagation, companion planting, pest and disease management and more.

Commercial strawberries sold in supermarkets have been sprayed up to 12 times with chemicals before you eat them. Is it any wonder they have no taste? Find out how you can get to the true taste of beautiful strawberries that grow extremely well in our Brisbane climate and can crop from July to December each year.

The presenter is Peter Kearney, an experienced organic and biodynamic gardener and educator who regulary runs biodynamic gardening courses. Peter has been growing strawberries organically for 10 years. The course will be held in his 250m2 strawberry patch in Wights Mountain.

Workshop fee of $30 includes (1) 30 strawberry runners (Festival variety) from planting stock grown with biodynamic methods and no chemicals for 10 years (2) Great tasting afternoon tea, (3) Written training material, and (4) The friendly people of like mind you will meet whilst getting your hands dirty.

Email Peter Kearney at peter@cityfoodgrowers.com.au, phone on 0401156532 or visit our April 2012 event calendar at www.cityfoodgrowers.com.au for registration instructions. Payment in advance of the course to confirm your booking is preferred.
