How great would it be if you only needed to water your vegies once a week? AND, if they stayed perfectly watered in between times? The answer is to install a simple wicking reservoir under part or all of your veg garden (or turn your pots into wicking pots).
Come and learn how to install a wicking reservoir into a new garden bed or retrofit one into an existing garden. It is so simple to do and uses mostly recycled bits and pieces. If you can dig a hole you can make one.
Part of the workshop will be looking at all the wicking beds, trenches, pots, compost and other ways I have used them in my garden.
I will also show you how else you can apply this simple but effective technology such as pot plants, raising seedlings, striking cuttings, composts etc.
Most wicking information currently available on the net, only provides information on more complex ways to create wicking beds or pots. I'll show you some delightfully simple ways to make them. These simple methods will be as effective or even more effective than the complicated versions. You can even install them on existing garden beds or parts of the garden that are not raised.
With a wicking reservoir your garden will:
Notes on the workshop, including diagrams, will be provided to participants.
This is a hands-on workshop, where we will install a small wicking trench in one of my gardens. Come prepared with your gardening clothes, water, gloves, hat, spade and/or shovel, fold out chair umbrella (for sun or rain) and raincoat (if it is raining). Bring along some morning tea to share so we can stop for a short break.
I will be running the workshop from my home at 75 Sewell Rd Tanah Merah.
The cost of the workshop is $20 per person with a limit of 15 people (first in first served). If there is enough demand I will run the workshop again at a later date. Please RSVP or express your interest in a future wicking workshop by going to the event listing on Logan Food Gardeners or by emailing me at LFG@lynbuffett.com.
If it is raining lightly the workshop will still be on, however if the weather is bad the workshop will be postponed. Check this event for direction if you are in doubt on the day. Or contact me, Lyn Buffett, on 0422 905 876.
I have run part of this workshop before, at the Rochedale community garden, and received very good feedback from the attendees. If you attended my previous wicking workshop, you will find more to learn in this workshop that I have not covered before.
I look forward to sharing this knowledge and experience with you.
