What happens when you put a permaculturally-trained architecture graduate onto a residential block and tell him to do whatever he wants to the place as long as it doesn't cost too much? Get ready for a jam packed session of inspiring ideas of how to transform a typical suburban house into a more sustainable, more liveable, more likable and more interesting place to call home - using mostly waste products. Kyle Bush of Humble Be Workshop will provide a crash course on the fundamentals of sustainable design and architecture and showcase the unorthodox approach he and his mother took to renovate the family home in Brisbane. Topics covered will include an overview of sustainability ideas within design and architecture; how to find treasure amongst the trash; how to manage volunteers in a working bee scenario to maximise innovation and a review of the many small projects completed at the Brisbane household between 2011 and 2013.
These FREE events and workshops are open to everyone in the community. It is advisable to bring along a notepad and pen for taking notes, as well as a hat, sunscreen and your water bottle.
