Event Description

Getting a community project or social enterprise off the ground can be hard work especially if you can’t find the $$ to make it happen… just ask The GOODNESS Inc!

At the same time there are plenty of people who want to see their dollars make a difference in their community, but don’t know where to start or how to navigate the maze of giving options and red tape out there.

But what if there was a simple way to bring both sides of the changemaker equation – those with ideas and those with capital to invest in social and environmental good – together (and have a bit of fun at the same time!)? At The GOODNESS Inc we believe there is!

SpeedSeed showcases local talent and kickstarts community projects, social enterprise and social business ideas by pitching changemakers 1:1 with people with resources to help them create that change.

Between March and October 2014, The GOODNESS Inc, proudly supported by Brisbane City Council, will be trialling an innovative new funding model for changemakers, in the form of SpeedSeed Brisbane events. We’re holding three (3) matchmaking events for people with a changemaker idea and changemaker investors in order to kickstart funding for social and environmental action at a grassroots level.

How it works

The concept is simple: take 15 people with ideas and 15 investors, pair them up and give them four minutes to pitch their proposal, get to know each other and discuss the potential to co-create change. Changemaker investors decide whether they want to fund the venture, hear more, collaborate or try again and then move on to the next potential match!

Successful matches receive each other’s details including links to crowdfunding campaigns, after each event.

In addition to any successful matches that occur, a GOODNESS Changemaker Fund – funded by ticket purchases and sponsor donations – will be allocated to the changemaker venture voted favourite on the night.

Who are we looking for?

We’re looking for people with project ideas or startups that are brimming with real goodness! Project ideas or start up social/environmental enterprises must demonstrate that they align with one or more of The GOODNESS Inc’s values:

  • Respect ourselves, others and future generations
  • Replenish the Earth
  • Give more than we take
  • Commit to the global goodness
  • Listen actively and learn from other cultures

Check out our Changemaker Kit if you would like to pitch an idea at a SpeedSeed event. Changemaker pitcher registrations for the May SpeedSeed event are now closed. Further Speed Seed rounds will be held in August and October.

We’re also looking for people who fill the other side of the changemaker equation: donors and investors who are seeking to co-create the change they want to see in the world by supporting good, ethical, grassroots projects and enterprise.

And anyone can be a donor: a few hundred dollars – or advice, connections, volunteer hours, goods or services – can make a difference to getting a worthwhile community project or enterprise off the ground. There are no expectations that you have to give or donate, only the hope that you will find something that inspires you.

Check out our Changemaker Investor Kit for more information on being an investor at a SpeedSeed event.

This looks like a fantastic idea.  I'm really looking forward to hearing about some wonderful projects.  Happy to do an honest report back for us all.  I suspect this might be a little idea that really catches on in BLF land.

Andy Cumberland has agreed to go to this as BLF representative :)

I have one free ticket to this for a BLF member!

Your task will be to listen to the pitches and report back to us here on the site letting us know about your top picks from the project pitches on the night and why/how we should support them :)
