GARDEN VISIT & MOSAICS DEMONSTRATION
Address will be sent closer the date. The address is always sent to your email you signed up with, if it is different you need to change your profile.
It has been a while since we have visited Dave's Garden at Beachmere. His garden is something to behold so many different Food Plants, Trees and Vines.
But I will let Dave tell you about his garden;
Dave created his garden out of Beachmere sand by laying down a lot of mulch. A LOT of mulch.
Grass clippings in the main -- but any and everything that could rot was laid down..
He now boasts a rich, worm-popular sandy loam.
After irrigating his patch for 8 years through unglazed terracotta pot -- olla -- irrigation he has renovated his garden after switching to a bore which taps the aquifers 5 metres below the surface.
With a preference for mixed vegetable planting, the garden is now formatted by Vetiver hedges which divide the growing space into separate beds or 'pens' surrounded by Vetiver.
The use of Vetiver is the garden's novel design approach as the Vetiver roots go down two metres while the above ground clumps are harvested for mulch.
The garden also has criss-crossing aerials above that support trellising for beans and cucurbits.
The backyard veranda also serves as a mosaic studio which hosts a regular weekly club. As part of your visit, Dave's partner, Helen, will demonstrate using broken crockery mosaics and how creative designs can be deployed practically in the garden.
Rough garden paths. Plenty of chairs and tables. On one level.
There is a little Cafe' nearby and it has been a wonderful spot for the group to end off the visit with lunch. So please join us, it is always a bit of fun.
Children welcome but must be supervised by parents at all times.
Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you would like to share, swap or sell.
It is always a good idea to bring along a chair as we do sometimes have more visitors than chairs available at GV gardens.
RSVP required so that the address can be sent to you closer to the date. The email address you nominated when you joined will be used. Please update this if it has changed.
Late attendees welcome. Message Dianne or phone 0407691485 on the day for the address.

When you come by automobile park, if you can, on my own and my neighbours' (both sides) nature strips so that the roadway isn't too narrowed.Parallel parking is best. Our verges are paddocks.
House with the 'mosaics' sign next to the gate. Enter the event via the gate to the side of the house. It is labeled.
Oh, I am jealous Mary-Ann, I would love to have acreage and live on a hill. Will be good to see you on Sunday, it's been a while.

Vetiver grass helps to stabilise soil and protects it against erosion. It can protect against pests and weeds. Vetiver is also used as animal feed. (Wiki.)
GrowVetiver is a plant nursery run by Dave & Keir Riley that harvests and grows Vetiver grass for local community applications and use. It is based in Beachmere, just north of Brisbane, Australia.
