Event Description

Sun November 23rd @ 8:00AM - 05:00PM
Permablitz #28 Bracken Ridge

This is a gently sloping block where the back yard has been a lawn for 44 years! Some improvements have been made to harvest the rain and to keep it from running under the house and onto the road (a berm and 2 new water tanks) and the area for the veggies has been ripped up to improve the impacted soil.

Plans for the day include:

  • Building 4 no-dig gardens for veggies
  • Making paths with wood mulch to act as mini berms
  • Planting fruit trees in raised beds
  • Putting in an area for bird, bee and butterfly habitat

If time:

  • Covering the chook-pen for shade (and to keep out visiting cats)
  • Building new compost bins

I've got most of the plants and equipment for the day, but I'd really appreciate help with any of these items:

  • Veggie seedlings - even if it's only 1 or 2, it'll be a massive help!
  • Newspapers and cardboard
  • Animal Poo (herbivore!)
  • A trailer - if somebody has one - I’m hoping to get a load of horse manure from the race track to bulk up the veggie beds

Also bring along your shovels, spades, secateurs, gloves, hats and water bottles on the day. Most of all bring your hands, feet, smiles and appetite!

In return for your efforts there’ll be a decadent morning tea and a delicious lunch (with help from my daughter). We have a shady carport for relief on a hot day. We'll be going ahead rain or shine and I’d love to see you there!

Please RSVP to ambennett@westnet.com.au if you'd like to come along. Let me know any dietary requirements. (Address given on RSVP)
