Last year a few of us went along and had a wonderful time. We had a very tasty breakfast and then it was off to be amazed by the amount of produce and so much of it we had never seen before, a foodies paradise, not to mention the new species of root vegetables etc that were able to be bought. So why not come and enjoy a day out with the international atmosphere and experience more than 200 nationalities and cultural experiences including multi-cultural costumes and shopping? The market provides international breakfast foods from Europe, Africa and Asia. I thought it might be lovely if we could enjoy breakfast or lunch at one of the many venues, before or after browsing the many stalls and stocking up on sort after produce and growing materials. Before, during or after shopping make a meal of it in the street food alley that looks and smells like it has been beamed up from a village in South East Asia. Here you’ll find hawkers peddling Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese street food, with generous plates of food $7 or less. Not only is this the best value food around, it is also the most authentic in a think-you-died- and-went-to-Asia kind of way. |

Yes, it was a really fun outing with my daughter Amelia and the folk from BLF. Having recently started using pumpkin sprouts (15cm or so of the growing tips) and sweet potato tips in my cooking,it was great to see them offered for sale in big bundles at the market. The largely African and Asian vendors had lots of other greens such as rosella leaves (going to research using them too),Taro leaves and stems, Ethiopian spinach etc for sale as well as mountains of yam varieties. So cool to see how other people find sustenance and nutrition in this wide world of ours. It got me thinking how those of us in the 1st world/wealthy nations have the luxury of wasting a lot of certain plants such as pumpkin which we only think of as providing a fruit, when there is so much nutritious and delicious food that it is offering us with its leaves and shoots etc.
Unfortunately I took only one photo that morning. Started well, then got food, once I was shopping I forgot to take pictures!
A picture of just a couple of the vast variety of eggplants we saw ...
Our market haul:- eggplants, gailan, persimmons, okra, snake beans,...
Thank you one and all for taking good care of my family and I in a new place. It was wonderful to put names and faces together.
And wow, that was a well priced market I haven't seen in a while. Definitely would like to come back.
We really enjoyed our visit to the markets yesterday. It was great to see Dianne up and about again, as well as meet Becky and her family, and Cathie's daughter, Olivia?. The weather was good and breakfast was very good value and up quite a few notches on my usual fare. Lots of great produce on offer, makes me wonder why we don't visit these markets more often as they are reasonably close to where we live.
It will be good whatever the weather. We look forward to the pix and report.
I think it would be mainly cash though there are some actual shops that I am pretty sure they would take EFTPOS. I look forward to seeing you tomorrow, and of course any of our other members New or Old.....
Do sellers accept EFTPOS or cash?
Come One come All - Don't forget members - We have our trip to have breakfast and shop at the Global Food Village in Logan this Sunday.
You will find Tubers for many different vegetables, you may find that one you have been looking for. Last year we found the Fruit & Veg to be of exceptional quality and the prices very good.
Welcome home from Tassie. Graham is very jealious, I sure you and he will have plenty of golf antics on Sunday. Hi, to Brenda. I made it...
I can imagine what your place looks like as mine was like a jungle when I got out of hospital after 8 weeks. But good old Darren and Graham used the machete to fight their way through. After 2 Loads of green waste to the dump already, we still have more to go. At least you have a big enough property to keep all of your cuttings, trimming etc. Wish I did, why oh why did I plant an Elderberry in the ground, it was fun digging the suckers out, a word of warning to those who do not know the why they grow, and I have no excuse as I did know. Enough of my bantering on...
Hope to see a good roll up on Sunday...
Arrived back from a holiday in Tasmania to find the garden overgrown and days of mowing ahead of me. I will look forward to getting a break from all the work, when we visit the Woodridge markets on Sunday and catch up with Dianne and Graham again.
