A wicking bed is basically a raised bed with a water reservoir in the bottom where water is wicked up to the plant’s roots by capillary action; in the process, the soil in the garden bed stays constantly moist and cool and there is far less water loss as a result. This workshop will be a practical, hands-on experience for all those wanting to learn how to set up their own wicking beds.
As this is a hands-on workshop out on the old basketball court, please wear a hat and sensible shoes (the ground could be a bit slippery due to all the rain) and bring along your water bottle. Depending on the weather, you might also bring along your ‘wellies’ and raincoat as well.
For Sale at the Gardens- tropical and sub-tropical edible plants
There is a full program of FREE workshops happening at the Gardens every second Saturday as part of the Community Partnership under the ‘Living Smart Saturday’ Program between Maroochy Community Permaculture Group Inc. and Sunshine Coast Council. All workshops commence at 9.30 am (unless otherwise indicated) and go for approx 1 1/2 to 2 hours. These FREE workshops are open to everyone in the community, not just members and volunteers at the Gardens and there is no need to book a place - unless otherwise indicated for that particular workshop. It is advisable to bring along a notepad and pen for taking notes, as well as a hat, sunscreen and your water bottle.
For more information or to be included on our mail-out list for workshop reminders, please contact us at Email: firstname.lastname@example.org or
Phone: 5446 7373 and leave a message – a friendly volunteer will get back to you during normal opening times at the Gardens.
