Event Description

416 Bunya Rd Bunya, on Sunday 29th March at 12-4.30 pm.

The Hills Organic Community Garden are holding their Open Day at the garden on Sunday the 29th March at 12.00 until 4.00.

There will be a guest speaker at 3.30 discussing the topic "Soils".

We would love to see as many people as possible come along and share the community garden.

The Hills Organic Garden is having their third Open Day at 416 Bunya Rd Bunya, on Sunday 29th March at 12-4.30 pm.

We have some great improvements to display in our garden which will be 1 year old!

A speaker Bevan McLeod will talk about Soil improvements 3.30–4.30pm.

There will be some plants and some products using our garden produce to be purchased for a donation towards future improvements of the garden.

Activities for children will include building a scarecrow.

Others will be able to participate in some construction and planting processes in the garden.

If you have any useful items for the garden that you no longer need (such as tools, wheelbarrows etc) we would be grateful to accept them.

If you want to join our garden you will be very welcome and can sign up on the day.

Looking forward to seeing you there – tell your neighbours and bring them along too!

ABOUT: The Hills Organic Garden is currently located at 416 Bunya Road, Ferny Hills (Brisbane) – right next to the off-leash dog area and behind Bunya Waste Management Facility.

The land provides opportunities where all people from Ferny Hills, Arana Hills, Everton Hills, Ferny Grove, Keperra, Upper Kedron, Bunya and surrounding districts can come together to grow fresh food, to learn, relax and make new friends. To contribute to a sense of community through teaching and fostering food security, sustainability and providing environmental improvement.

Meeting Times

The monthly business meeting is held a 3pm on the second Sunday of each Month.

A general working day is held on the last Sunday of each month. Times vary between the warmer months with longer days (6am to 9am and 3pm to 6pm) and the cooler months with shorter days (10am – 3pm).


Membership is currently $10 per year or part thereof and cover the period of the year from 1 September to 31 August the following calendar year.

Vetiver grass helps to stabilise soil and protects it against erosion.  It can protect against pests and weeds. Vetiver is also used as animal feed. (Wiki.)

GrowVetiver is a plant nursery run by Dave & Keir Riley that harvests and grows Vetiver grass for local community applications and use. It is based in Beachmere, just north of Brisbane, Australia.
