Workshop content:

This workshop from 1-4 pm is suitable for new and experienced food gardeners who want to make most of small spaces in their homes, workplaces or schools for organic food growing.  The workshop is held in the food gardens of the presenter in Camp Mountain, Brisbane, only 30 minutes from the Brisbane CBD and 5 minutes from Ferny Grove station. 

During the workshop you will learn:

  • Design concepts for your small spaces to make them ideal for food growing,  including different growing containers, beds and growing mediums

  • Ideal crops that maximise food production for the space and are easy to grow in season

  • Understand how to maintain the vitality of your food plants so they resist pests and diseases 

  • To save time and money with your own food gardening endeavours by knowing the ideal starting point and how to manage your organic garden


Peter Kearney is an experienced workshop presenter, educator and urban agriculture consultant. He has worked with,organic gardening for 40 years and is the founder of which commenced in 2007. Peter's business has been involved in food garden design for homes, offices and schools, focused on maximising food growing in small spaces. Over the last 6 years Peter has run organic gardening workshops in his home garden and at client sites for over 300 participants and his web site connects with up to 10,000 food gardeners per month.

Workshop format 

Arrive – 12.45 - for 1pm start

1-2pm - Introduction to food garden design concepts for small spaces 

2-3pm - Plant selection, garden management and dealing with pests and diseases

3-4pm - Afternoon tea combined with a Q & A that contextualises the content to your own food garden situation so you have an action plan to take away

Cost and registration

The workshop fee is $75 per person and includes the 3 hour workshop, a beautiful afternoon tea and a 12 month online Organic Gardening subscription to our web site (worth $49). Numbers are limited to a maximum of 15 people per course so payment in advance is required.
