WICKING BED SPECIAL

ADDRESS SENT AT 6.30AM FRI 3/3 TO ALL MEMBERS ATTENDING OR MAY BE ATTENDING

A Message from Elaine

Elaine and Elaine, the 'Wicking Bed Queens of Deception Bay' invite wicking bed enthusiasts to share a morning with us on Sunday 5th March, 2017; 10am start and finish around noon to 12.30pm.

Our garden is on a standard suburban block: 600 sq m or 24 perches. Take away the house, paths and garden shed and we're left with ... not a heck of a lot.

Originally we gardened just in the ground but found the slope more of a challenge than we could cope with. Add some trees who found the constant watering an enticement to invade the beds.

We moved here in 2002 right in the middle of the drought. By the time watering restrictions were in place, we had installed a 1000L tank which went nowhere. Added a 5000L tank and still we could not keep up with the water requirement.

Elaine my partner found 'wicking beds' on the 'net. The rest is history.

I'm planning a quick morning tea then a more leisurely trip around the beds. There are 4 distinct styles of wicking beds to see; I will have a brief handout to explain the differences.

Our back patio could comfortably seat maximum of 12 people - we have chairs for 7. Much as we would love to see more of you, the area makes its own restrictions.

Plenty of on-street parking. The land slopes up to the house with no fences; the back is flat and fenced.

Anyone who cannot make the day is welcome to come before or after the GV, just private message to me on this Forum to make arrangements.

Children welcome but must be supervised by parents at all times.

Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you would like to share, swap or sell.

It is always a good idea to bring along a chair as we do sometimes have more visitors than chairs available at GV gardens.

RSVP required so that the address can be sent to you closer to the date. The email address you nominated when you joined will be used. Please update this if it has changed.

As places are limited to the first 12 people who RSVP you may wish to get in early. Message Dianne on phone 0407691485 if you are unable to attend so as your place may go to someone else. Don't forget to change your RSVP if you can't make it.

Makes good sense changing the date, as it is just to much in this heat, for the hosts and visitors.

The Elaine's GV Feb 5th Sunday, has had to be postponed until March 5th due to heat on Sunday. Hope to see a good roll up in March...

I really need to bite the bullet and bring along my "big box of seed" and share them around.

I would love to go but I am doing a sausage sizzle at Bunnings for Scouts all day.

Next week we have our Wicking Bed Talk at Elaine's coming up. It will be great to see many of our regular GV goers as well as new members. We always have some interesting plants, cuttings, produce and seeds on our tables, a good way to get something special for planting. And can I say the Morning Teas are always a treat. Hope to see a good roll up.

Having now experienced wicking beds for myself here at Karla's place I can say I am very impressed....yes, I know better late than never!!

All the seedlings I have put in took off in no time at all with only a weeks attention with direct morning watering by me.
