A Message from Elaine
Elaine and Elaine, the 'Wicking Bed Queens of Deception Bay' invite wicking bed enthusiasts to share a morning with us on Sunday 5th March, 2017; 10am start and finish around noon to 12.30pm.
Our garden is on a standard suburban block: 600 sq m or 24 perches. Take away the house, paths and garden shed and we're left with ... not a heck of a lot.
Originally we gardened just in the ground but found the slope more of a challenge than we could cope with. Add some trees who found the constant watering an enticement to invade the beds.
We moved here in 2002 right in the middle of the drought. By the time watering restrictions were in place, we had installed a 1000L tank which went nowhere. Added a 5000L tank and still we could not keep up with the water requirement.
Elaine my partner found 'wicking beds' on the 'net. The rest is history.
I'm planning a quick morning tea then a more leisurely trip around the beds. There are 4 distinct styles of wicking beds to see; I will have a brief handout to explain the differences.
Our back patio could comfortably seat maximum of 12 people - we have chairs for 7. Much as we would love to see more of you, the area makes its own restrictions.
Plenty of on-street parking. The land slopes up to the house with no fences; the back is flat and fenced.
Anyone who cannot make the day is welcome to come before or after the GV, just private message to me on this Forum to make arrangements.
Children welcome but must be supervised by parents at all times.
Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you would like to share, swap or sell.
It is always a good idea to bring along a chair as we do sometimes have more visitors than chairs available at GV gardens.
RSVP required so that the address can be sent to you closer to the date. The email address you nominated when you joined will be used. Please update this if it has changed.
As places are limited to the first 12 people who RSVP you may wish to get in early. Message Dianne on phone 0407691485 if you are unable to attend so as your place may go to someone else. Don't forget to change your RSVP if you can't make it.

Thanks so Much Elaine and Elaine, Graham and I had a lovely time and how nice to see the old as well as newer members and those who came along for the talk after hearing about us.
A report with pics will follow as soon as I can pull Graham away from the work bench to load the photos, he's Under the "Pump at the Moment"..
Thank you Elaine and Elaine for having us all over. You've made a few changes and improvements since I was last there. Always something new to look at.
Really good to see some new faces amongst the regulars. Especially Peggy (Pollyanna) who came all the way from Toowoomba to join us.
Although I no longer have my own garden my interest hasn't waned and it was lovely to talk plants with friends. Came away with a small potted plant from Michael of Bush Basil from a plant he grew from a cutting I gave him some time back It was the best Bush Basil ever that plant and I'm just thrilled that it's being carried on, thank you Michael :)
Planted a Listada di Gandia (thank you Susan!) in Lynn's garden too. Hopefully she will love the fruit of this fantastic eggplant as much as the rest of us.
I'd love to have a good excuse Elaine. However, I might have slept through it. Yes.. the rumours are true... Andy Stiltskin... where did you think the beard came from?!
You are welcome Julie - good to meet some newer members!
Thank you so much Elaine and Elaine for hosting today's visit. I learnt a lot and met some really lovely people. Thank you to everyone for being so generous with your knowledge, seeds, samples and yourselves! Look forward to the next one!
In the 'For Sale and Freebies' section there will be some items available at our GV on 5th March.
Sorry should have said Elaine's GV 12th of Feb now 5th March.
Always add photos using the "From my computer" option, even if you are on a mobile phone or other device.
