Event Description

SUNDAY AUGUST 20th10.00am TO 12.00pm

GayleD has given us a little bit of an insight into the major renovations of her gardens:

It seems like I have a very different garden since the last BLF visit.

What was the swimming pool is now a 50,000L water tank. The lid is slightly raised above the ground and you can walk on it.  That means the pool fences have gone (not very far, they are now vertical gardens against the fence) and the paving around the pool was lifted giving about 40sqm of garden space.

The housing development over the back fence is still in progress.  The old retaining wall has gone and the new fence is mainly ground level and about 60cm further back so we gained some extra garden.  This has also changed the sun, wind, and drainage of much of the garden so I’ve had to rethink some areas.

Both sides of the verge are now planted out - street tree and natives on one side, mainly flowers on the other.  Dichondra and native violet provide a living mulch.

Inside the yard, I have native areas and two above ground ponds to provide habitat and attract pollinators to the garden. There are several edible beds, plus some edibles in pots. Lemon trees, lime tree, 2 avocados trees in mounds, blueberry in pot, fig in pot.

Knowing I have all that water has made a lot of difference - more than I thought it would.

The site is fairly flat with 3 shallow steps onto the tank lid.  Access is by a short but steepish driveway although I hope to have some steps installed before August. I’ve finally worked out how to make it more pedestrian friendly.

Children are welcome but please be aware there are no fences to stop them going out onto the road.  Fair amount of parking on the street. We have plenty of mugs, seating for 20.

Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you would like to share, swap or sell.

It is always a good idea to bring along a chair as we do sometimes have more visitors than chairs available at GV gardens.

RSVP required so that the address can be sent to you closer to the date. The email address you nominated when you joined will be used. Please update this if it has changed.

Late attendees welcome. Message Dianne or phone 0407691485 on the day for the address.

I am so sorry, I don't know where my head is the March GV will be at Elaine's. So sorry it wasn't until I went in to change the calendar that I realized Elaine's had postponed their date. I need to get another hit on the head to reverse my memory loss I think.

As we have not had any members come forward to host a GV in March, GayleD has been kind enough to bring hers forward. I look forward to seeing the refurbished garden on the 12th of March. I do realize that the heat has been a problem for a lot of us in our gardens, so hopefully we are over the worst of it. Let's fill in those empty spaces of the months on the GV Calendar.

GayleD has been very busy this year transforming what was her swimming pool (now closed in) into an expanse of garden. The old saying 'A Garden is Never Done' is certainly true here. Thank You so much GayleD for offering to host a GV in August.
