I am so sorry to have to tell you all but the Elaine's have not been well this year so need to cancel their GV. I would like to thank both Elaine's for all the things they have done for BLF and it's members, we will miss seeing your garden this year.
It will be Brisbane Exhibition Day but everything will be open in Deception Bay as they are in the Moreton Bay Regional Council. A lunch will follow at The Tavern, more details will be sent closer the date.
Address will be sent closer the date. The address is always sent to your email you signed up with, if it is different you need to change your profile.
Come and meet the Wicking Bed Queens of Deception Bay. Elaine and Elaine have made a food garden of sorts from a 600 sq m desert block on the side of a western-facing hill. Most of the plants including fruit trees are in bins ranging from 60L to 200L.
Wicking beds can be many designs and all work the same just some designs may be more efficient than others. Most of our bins are without a filler and reservoir pipe, they just use the mix to hold water; and we have two separate designs of commercial bins.
There is a ton of info - isn't there always? - on the net about wicking beds. The site with a hugeamount of information going back for years, is Colin Austin's site. Bundaberg-based Colin helped to popularise wicking beds - and their many variations - and has a lot of research which he shares freely. It is a giant site yet the time spent will be well rewarded by the information available.
Lunch follows the visit. Come to Deception Bay Tavern in the Deception Bay Mkt Shopping Centre. It's a Woolworths pub so no gourmet food but what is on offer is reasonably priced and well cooked and presented; it's not busy on Exhibition Wednesday.
For any BLFer who wants to see the garden and talk wicking beds and who cannot make the day, we're happy to see them - by arrangement - before or after the garden visit.
Children welcome but must be supervised by parents at all times.
Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you would like to share, swap or sell.
It is always a good idea to bring along a chair as we do sometimes have more visitors than chairs available at GV gardens.
RSVP required so that the address can be sent to you closer to the date. The email address you nominated when you joined will be used. Please update this if it has changed.
Late attendees welcome. Message Dianne or phone 0407691485 on the day for the address.
