From Dave about his garden:
Last time we visited my garden it was April. This time around we get to touch base in the warmth of Summer with the Green Thumb Challenge of whether the garden greenery survives the heat.
My garden is a large vegey patch primarily growing annuals. Underneath is sand: the beach stuff -- yellow and sterile...and very porous.
The garden is 7 years old.
To keep water in the hard fought for topsoil the garden is watered by dinner-plate-covered Terracotta Pots and mulched with a succession of grass clippings.
Over the past few months, the garden has been remodeled into a series of mounds of various sizes -- one pot per mound -- and the planting out of the whole space has been completed.
Other hardware in the mix are overhead lines and handrails to support climbing plants.
By the time of the visit, the garden should be dotted with Pigeon Peas and the criss cross of aerial lines covered in various climbers. For ground cover I use a lot of Pig Face (Carpobrotus glaucescens ) which I harvest, chop up and bury in my mounds.
The ground and approaches are flat but walkers need to watch where they step as the paths are uneven.
Plenty of on street parking.
With my visit coming up, here is a visitor's map for Beachmere that suits a weekend tour.
Help the local horse crowd and buy some manure to take home...

IT'S GOOD TO HAVE A VARIETY OF PEOPLE REPORTING ON THESE GV'S TO GIVE DIFFERENT PERSPECTIVES. LOOKING FOR A VOLUNTEER TO TAKE SOME PHOTOS ON THE DAY AND WRITE UP A REPORT IN THEIR OWN WORDS. ANY ONE LIKE TO OFFER?

Children welcome but must be supervised by parents at all times.
Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you want to share, swap or sell.

Late attendees welcome. Message Lissa or phone 0414 445 581 on the day for the address.

Thank you Dave, we had an enjoyable morning. Sorry we had to leave early but the little one was sleepy. It was a good insight into what can be done to over come sandy soil to achieve success.
a great day I must say.
Olivia had a ball, GV,swim, snacks and hot choc, what more can you pack into a Saturday. If I can make it work for a little girl and enjoy it myself that has to be a win win folks. Back to basic's for the kids to learn , ( and alot of adults in the world need to catch on) and we all move forward. Thankyou all.
My Rozie says it's Manflu. I reckon it is Denghai Fever.
Hey Gayle - sorry had already left by the time your message came through. I didn't bring anything home to share :/ but you are more than welcome to come raid my garden for Cup from Above.
Sorry to hear your both sick fellas. Get well soon.
Sorry I missed it too. Didn't want to spread the flu.
Sorry will not be attending as I have a bad head cold and I don't want to spread it around.
Have a great day!
Sorry folks, I'm not going to make it today.
If there are any left-over cuttings or seedlings, especially soil-building plants like comfrey, legumes etc, the new community garden at Cup from Above at Aspley would love them. I can pick up from someone local - Lissa?
Thanks Phil. I've sent you and Rob an urgent PM also.
Will also bring some Elderfower Cordial and Elderflower cuttings.
Add another person Lissa....

GrowVetiver is a plant nursery run by Dave & Keir Riley that harvests and grows Vetiver grass for local community applications and use. It is based in Beachmere, just north of Brisbane, Australia.
