From Dave about his garden:

Last time we visited my garden it was April. This time around we get to touch base in the warmth of Summer with the Green Thumb Challenge of whether the garden greenery survives the heat.

My garden is a large vegey patch primarily growing annuals. Underneath is sand: the beach stuff -- yellow and sterile...and very porous.

The garden is 7 years old.

To keep water in the hard fought for topsoil the garden is watered by dinner-plate-covered Terracotta Pots and mulched with a succession of grass clippings.

Over the past few months, the garden has been remodeled into a series of mounds of various sizes -- one pot per mound  -- and the planting out of the whole space has been completed.

Other hardware in the mix are overhead lines  and handrails  to support climbing plants.

By the time of the visit, the garden should be dotted with Pigeon Peas and the criss cross of aerial  lines covered in various climbers. For ground cover  I use a lot of Pig Face (Carpobrotus glaucescens ) which I harvest, chop up and bury in my mounds.

The ground and approaches are flat but walkers need to watch where they step as the paths are  uneven.

Plenty of on street parking.

With my visit coming up, here is a visitor's map for Beachmere that suits a weekend tour.

Help the local horse crowd and buy some manure to take home...

I will be bringing cuttings for lavender Cats Whiskers, Rosemary - upright fragrant variety, Surinam Spinach and chillies - tall bush, very decorative and not too hot.

Looks like a good roll up Dave - we're expecting about 19 people not including yourself and Helen.
