DETAILS

Why not come and enjoy a day out with the international atmosphere and experience more than 200 nationalities and cultural experiences including multi-cultural costumes and shopping? The market provides international breakfast foods from Europe, Africa and Asia.

I thought it might be lovely if we could enjoy breakfast or lunch at one of the many venues, before or after browsing the many stalls and stocking up on sort after produce and growing materials.

Before, during or after shopping make a meal of it in the street food alley that looks and smells like it has been beamed up from a village in South East Asia. Here you’ll find hawkers peddling Thai, Cambodian and Vietnamese street food, with generous plates of food $7 or less.

Not only is this the best value food around, it is also the most authentic in a think-you-died- and-went-to-Asia kind of way.

That looks great!

Yes Roger, if it weren't for us slightly mad people, the world would be a sadder place.

Things did not look promising as we travelled to the event on Sunday morning. The rain was getting heavier as we neared Woodridge to meet up with Colin and Mary-Anne, Graham and Dianne, but the effort was well worthwhile in the end. We enjoyed good company, great food and a range of produce you certainly don't get at your usual supermarkets. I managed to get some sweet, disease resistant mangos, and some sour mangos which will all be eaten then used to grow seedling trees. I also got some lovely looking egg plants, which will be used to eat and grow. The prices of everything were very cheap, and bargains were everywhere.

Definitely worth a repeat visit next year, when even the "stay at homes" might venture out and join us slightly mad, types who braved the weather for a great experience.

Looks like a fabulous day!

Thanks for the pix, Dianne. I'm drooling over those Okra, how do they get them to grow so well in this season? Mine are just in their first true leaves. The ethnic folks around my way don't grow for the markets, darn it. Tho maybe at Caboolture market but I don't get there now.

Thanks so Much Mary-An, we did have a great time and the rain held off just long enough to allow us to walk the magic mile of Sights and Smells (I lie, not quite q mile, but it was magic). We ate foods that were new to us and learnt more about cooking these many and varied foods,

I took home 4Kgs of Blueberries at a fabulous price as I took what was left. I will turn some into Blueberry Cordial and the rest into Blueberries in Blueberry Sauce. Low Sugar of course.

Below are some photos from the day.
