FLOW HIVE BEEKEEPING SPECIAL
A Little about the Talk by Cathie:
I will be happy to talk about my experiences with rescuing the bees and with setting up the Flow hive (new technology for harvesting honey)
A little about my Garden by Cathie:
My garden is located in Keperra alongside the train line and wraps around my entire house. I have always been passionate about growing food. When I was a kid we had a great vegetable garden and my mother was adventurous enough to preserve a lot of food. I loved the ABC TV show 'The Good Life' and I always thought it was the way to live. My garden is not neat and tidy. I can't seem to help myself from tucking a little of this in next to that. I always admire very orderly gardens but I can't seem to do it myself. Probably it has to do with indecision and spreading the plants around the garden hoping they'll do well in one area if they don't in another but I pretend it is all strategic and planned and permaculturally correct companion planting!
I have a few fruit trees with intentions of getting a whole lot more as my ultimate goal is a food forest with fruit trees and perennial vegetables and annuals tucked in here and there. I will be very happy for advice about what to plant where. I have made lots of mistakes that I am in the process of trying to correct and it is very much a work in progress. I have quite a few tropical ornamentals in one part of the garden as well as a bit of a perennial border with salvias etc.
I have been a beekeeper for approximately six months with bees that I rescued from a wild hive on a patio chair at my workplace which I put into a flow hive and am loving this new dimension of life in the garden. I will share a bit of my journey and what I have learned about bees and if the time is right we may be able to harvest a frame of honey.
My house is on a battleaxe easement behind my sister's house. Our driveway comes up from a cul-de-sac so there no parking on our property and very little on our short street, however there is street parking on the adjacent streets. The house is two storey but a bathroom is available downstairs. The yard is mostly flat.
Children welcome but must be supervised by parents at all times.
Please bring a small plate of food or drink to share and any plants, produce or seed that you would like to share, swap or sell.
It is always a good idea to bring along a chair as we do sometimes have more visitors than chairs available at GV gardens.
RSVP required so that the address can be sent to you closer to the date. The email address you nominated when you joined will be used. Please update this if it has changed.
