29th July Workshop  Creating a Food Forest with Jason Davies (9.30 am)

A food forest can be created anywhere with simple planning and Permaculture techniques. Jason will show you how to design, plan & implement a food forest for your property of any size. Turn your property into a food oasis by stacking, layering & building soil structure for healthy organic plants, that will produce food all year round. Plant species will be discussed, including what & where to plant. Many of these can be purchased at YCG nursery after workshop. Jason is a qualified Horticulturalist, and has completed Permaculture Design Certificate & Urban Permaculture Design and Holistic management course. As a Permaculture Design Consultant, his passion is designing Permaculture properties from unit patios, suburban house lots & large/small acreage. For more information about Jason go to permaculturedesignblog.wordpress.com Jason has generously donated this workshop to Yandina Community Gardens.

Cost: $5 Non-Members, Gold coin for Members, Free to Regular Volunteers

Well, I took the camera with good intentions but was so engrossed in the talk and then wandering through the garden with Phil who came along to pick up ideas for his new property I took no pics.

Good basic diagrams and talk about planting fruit trees with understory plants and giving examples of good plants to use. The info will end up being posted on the YCG website I would imagine.

GrowVetiver

Vetiver grass helps to stabilise soil and protects it against erosion.  It can protect against pests and weeds. Vetiver is also used as animal feed. (Wiki.)

GrowVetiver is a plant nursery run by Dave & Keir Riley that harvests and grows Vetiver grass for local community applications and use. It is based in Beachmere, just north of Brisbane, Australia.
