Queensland Community Power Cooperative?
(This event will be repeated, 11 am Dec 27, at Woodford Folk Festival, in The Greenhouse).
Our governments are not doing enough about climate change, ignoring community wishes and expectations (such as promoting unsustainable and socially unjust technologies like Coal Seam Gas) and actively reducing our ability to reduce our GHG emissions.
Here is an opportunity to come and get involved in Community Owned Renewable Energy in Queensland. This is the what, why and how to get involved. Learn about this ever-growing community driven sector and where this is already happening in Australia.
So What is Community Owned Renewable Energy? Community Owned Renewable Energy (CORE), or Community Renewable Energy (CRE) refers to renewable energy developments that are owned and developed by and for the community. There is no one size fits all, as these developments can be large or small in scale and can include any of the renewable energy technologies. CORE projects are often established through first registering as a co-operative. They are owned and established through community participation. Some of the things they all have in common are decarbonisation, energy security, energy sovereignty and community development.
How can you and your community benefit?
Anything you invest in CORE projects will be money to finance renewable energy in your community, with profits being returned to the community through the investors themselves or through a small percentage going towards a community fund Organised by Energetic Communities.
